An Overview of the Early Learning Units
There are 10 units within BroadLEARN™ Early Learning which covering a prescribed literacy and numeracy skills and introduce common nouns and sight words. Each unit encompasses a theme. Themes such as the sea, on the farm, parties and celebrations, outer space, nusery rhymes and the circus have been incorporated into the program to provide children with an engaging environment in which to learn.
The following is a brief overview of the 10 units:
- Colour Fun teaches students the language of colours
- Rhyme Time covers word families and rhyming words
- Make a Shape teaches common 2 dimensional shapes
- Where Am I encourages usage of positional language
- Animals covers sea, farm and jungle animals
- Number fun deals with numbers up to 20, counting and basic numeracy
- All around Me covers birthday, seasons, weather and time
- Look at Me introduces the body, the 5 senses, as well as nouns in and around the home
- ABCs deals with alphabet letters, sequencing and initial letter sounds
- International School House is developed for teachers who needed resources with simple language patterns and rhyme. Ideal for children to whom English is a second language and also for introducing international languages. This area also contains Japanese, Chinese and Spanish translation.
Each unit follows the same format, allowing young children and children with special needs are quickly able to use this program independently. Each unit is underpinned by an interactive story which introduces the language of the unit.
Each unit contains 10 activities:
- 1 interactive story
- 8 learning activities to support learning objectives through play based learning
- 1 karaoke style song which reinforces the language learned within the unit
Each story has 3 pathways:
- Storyteller: a rich language experience which introduces the unit's focus words in an animated story and places less emphasis on a student's reading level.
- Read to Me: read, watch and listen with a measured reading pace and featuring underlined words to assist the development of literacy skills.
- Read by Myself: read and explore the text independently. Audio feedback is provided when words are clicked on by the child.
